On a very hot June afternoon in 2011, Elaine and her two brothers (Kramer and Jerry) were spotted running up and down the street in front of SoCo Rescue, apparently abandoned by their former owner. All three were very apprehensive towards humans, which required 2-3 days to trap them. But after being at SoCo Rescue for a couple of days, Elaine and her brothers seemed to realize that we meant them no harm and began to open up and interact with us.

Elaine enjoys interacting with dogs of all sizes. She does seem to prefer a quieter, calmer environment so a home that is settled and without an abundance of noise will be best for her. She isn't a clingy, needy dog, as in always wanting to be held or having to be under foot and will take a couple of days to decide if a person is friend or foe. Once she knows she can trust a person, she will give plenty of love and kisses to the them.

Since with us, Elaine has been spayed, wormed and fully vaccinated. She is also on a monthly heart worm preventative and did test negative for heart worms. She has progressed very nicely with her house training, learning to use our doggie door that gives her full time access to a fenced outside area. With continued training, Elaine should excel in her house training skills in a home where only scheduled outdoor trips would exist. Because she has the fenced area to use freely, Elaine has yet to receive any leash training.

Considering what Elaine was facing just a year ago, abandoned, unwanted and frightened of humans, she has made us very proud of her progress in becoming a great family pet.
